Description
This method can be used for quantitative determination of enterococci in foods, feeds and environmental samples. The term enterococci in connection with the present method includes Gram positive, catalase negative, oblong-oval cocci, occurring in pairs or in short chains, which are able to reduce 2,3,5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride to formazan and to hydrolyse aesculin at 44 °C on the media specified in the method.
The method has not been validated in an interlaboratory study.
