Description
The method describes 3 reactions for qualitative analysis of benzoic acid. The method is not specific. By extraction of benzoic acid from food samples other compounds may be transferred to the extract and thereby interfere with the gravimetric and/or titrimetric determination of the ether extract. When an exact determination of benzoic acid is required it is recommended to use a chromatographic method. PRINCIPLE: After the preparation of the sample, benzoic acid is extracted in acid solution by means of ethyl ether. The presence of benzoic acid in the extract may be detected according to three chemical methods and one chromatographic. Benzoic Acid (NMKL 2)
