Description
Formaldehyde. Determination in foods. Free formaldehyde and formaldehyde from hexamethylene- tetramine, or otherwise reversibly bound formaldehyde is steam-distilled from a solution or suspension of the food acidified with phosphoric acid. Formaldehyde is detected and determined coloritmetrically by reaction with chromotropic acid. The chromotropic acid reaction is not applicable in the presence of higher alcohols which inhibit the colour-formation. Formaldehyde (NMKL 54)
