History: In 1987, the first edition of NMKL Report No. 5 was published with the title “Handbook for Microbiological Laboratories – Introduction to Internal Quality Control of Analytical Work”. The second edition was published in 1994, following a revision. Since then, there has been considerable development within this field, with among other things accreditation and the establishment of an international standard for calibration and testing laboratories. Therefore, NMKL decided to revise the report again, this time publishing it as procedure No. 23
