Description
The method is intended for quantitative determination of paralytic algae toxins that can be present in shellfish. They are causing the syndrome called Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning (PSP). The method can determine the PSP- toxins STX, NEO, GTX1,4 (together), GTX2,3 (together), dcSTX, dcGTX2,3 (together), C1,2 (together) and C3,4 (together). The toxins are extracted from the shellfish tissue with 1% acetic acid. The extract is cleaned up on a C18 solid phase cartridge and a solid phase ion exchange cartridge (weak cation exchange) is used to fractionate the toxins into 3 groups. The toxins are oxidized into fluorescence compounds that are separated on a C18 HPLC-column and detected with a fluorescence detector. PSP-myrkyt.
