Description
This method is for the enumeration of thermotolerant coliform bacteria and Escherichia coli in all types of foods and feeds. The method is especially suitable for the detection of stressed or sublethally injured bacteria. The number of thermotolerant coliform bacteria is determined by plating known quantities of a sample after resuscitation step onto lactose containing selective agar medium. Selected colonies are confirmed as Escherichia coli on suitable diagnostic media.
This NMKL method has been validated in an interlaboratory study.
