- NordVal International study plan template (new Aug 2026): Microbiology quantitative methods ver. Aug 2026 (docx)
Updated:
NMKL Procedure 4 describes how to validate and verify chemical analytical methods and was revised in 2026, and transferred to the new NMKL template.
The revisions include various changes and improvements: text generally clarified for readability, updated references, clarification on acceptance of reproducibility and definition of selectivity, and clarification of calculation formulas.
NMKL Procedure 4 Ed. 4 (2026) was issued 8th of July 2026.
NordVal International Protocol No. 1 Validation of microbiological alternative (proprietary) methods against a reference method version June 2026 is available here: Validation protocols – NMKL
The protocol follows the EN ISO 16140-2: Microbiology of the food chain — Method validation — Part 2: Protocol for the validation of alternative (proprietary) methods against a reference method.
New in the version of June 2026 (29.06.26):
NMKL 107 Ed. 3 2026 Titratable acidity. Determination in Milk and Cream specifies a routine method for determination of the titratable acidity in all types of milk and cream. The revision includes layout update and the option to use pH-meter instead of colorimetric indicator.
NMKL Method 107 Titratable acidity. Determination in Milk and Cream.
NordVal 050 Compact Dry YM RAPID from Shimadzu Diagnostics Corporation was renewed with additional 2 years validity until 15.06.28.
The method has been tested for enumeration of viable yeasts and moulds in a broad range of foods.
The NordVal certificates for the Bio-Rad RAPID broad range methods were renewed with additional 2y validity:
NMKL published 30 Apr 2026 a new edition of the Procedure 12 Guide on Sampling for Analysis of Foods.
This guide is intended for anyone involved in planning and conducting sampling for analysis of foods.
NMKL Procedure 12 Ed.3 2026 Guide on Sampling for Analysis of Foods
The 4th of April 2026 the method “NMKL 71 Ed. 6 2025 Salmonella. Detection in Foods” published 20 March 2025 were corrected:
NMKL was represented at the 45th session of the Codex Committee on Methods of Analysis and Sampling (CCMAS45) in Budapest, Hungary, 9 – 13 March 2026.
Several NMKL methods were endorsed as Codex standards, and the official report from the meeting is available from the CCMAS45 website and the link here.
The Codex Alimentarius is a collection of internationally adopted food standards and related texts presented in a uniform manner. These food standards and related texts aim at protecting consumers’ health and ensuring fair practices in the food trade. The publication of the Codex Alimentarius is intended to guide and promote the elaboration and establishment of definitions and requirements for foods to assist in their harmonization and in doing so to facilitate international trade.
A new edition of NMKL 201 Sensory quality control of marine oils Ed.2 2026 was published 27 Mar 2026.
The method describes a sensory quality test of marine oils as an umbrella term for oils extracted from fish, shellfish or marine mammals that are rich in healthy polyunsaturated fatty acids.
